1951/52 Estimates. Police Force

Subsistence and

Travelling Allowances for Witnesses and Prisoners.

Finance Committee has approved a supplementary provision of $266,000 for Head 23 Subhead 25 in the 1951/52 estimates and I seek your covering approval in accordance with the terms of your despatch No.302 of the 25th September, 1948.

2.

This supplementary provision was required to meet increased expenditure on food for Witnesses and Prisoners due to :-

(a) the increased cost of meals under new contract rates,

(b) meals supplied to persons detained temporarily at a new

Detention Compound, and

(c) an all round increase in the number of meals supplied to

date in comparison with the last financial year.

Prices have increased as the meals supplied under the new contract are improved both in quantity and quality.
